  • Province: Rift Valley, Samburu District
  • Geographical Location: North of Nairobi
  • Altitude: 800 - 1,230 meters above sea level
  • Distance from Nairobi: 340 Kms

Climate

Dry and parched most of the year Temperature during the day is refreshingly hot, especially if you had a rough winter in your home country, but tends to cool during the night. This area of the region to this date is referred to as the Northern Frontier District

Vegetation

Narrow riverine woodland of doum palm and acacia woodland with bush land, grassland, and scrubland. Samburu National Reserve is very peaceful, and attracts animals because of River Uaso Nyiro (meaning "brown water" and pronounced U-aa-so-Nyee-ro) that runs through it and the mixture of acacia, riverine forest, thorn trees and grass vegetation.

Where to Stay/Accommodations

Several lodges are found within the park e.g. Samburu Game Lodge, Samburu Sopa Lodge, Intrepid Tented Camp, and Larsen’s Tented Camp among others. There are also several public campsites run by the local county council which have no facilities and booked in advance
